![]() Just an FYI for anyone that's new to collecting this era: a lot of the figures aren't aging well. Many of the flaws featured in those sculpts are hard to overlook, but I think if you look at them purely as toys, you'll see that this was the last time GI Joe was fun in the way a kid might like. As a GI Joe line from an adult's point of view, it left a lot to be desired. My collecting space is so limited now that I have to relax on vehicles for the time being!Īs a toy line, Valor Vs Venom was great. Kinda sad I passed up all those chances to get a Night Attack/Crimson Command Chopper back in the day (. I skipped over them in favor of the vehicles of this era.I too bought a NIB ROCC!! I love the Rhino as well. Mostly classic ARAH stuff and Classified's, but recently I have been eyeing the 2000's figures to see what I missed out on. Lol I have a similar story! I got back into collecting during the pandemic when I was stricken by extreme fomo, and really haven't snapped out of it since. ![]() Not to mention giving us Black Out, Bombstrike, Barrel Roll, Cross Hair, Hi-Tech and so much more. It's seriously a slept on Era of goodies. ![]() I love the Battle Hornets, Jungle Strike Humvee, and the Crimson Command Chopper. From the figures to the amazing vehicles. Joe vs Cobra, Spy Troops, and Valor vs Venom were all great lines. I can't stand the elongated limbs or weird torso proportions, but some of those well balanced figures I'd really like to own some day.ĭuring Covid I built up a 2003-2006 Era Joe collection from scratch, and I'm glad I did. I'm mostly fond of some ideas and designs of things pre-Valor Vs Venom, but some V vs V figure work really well and strike a chord between modern era and classic ARAH, to me. I vastly prefer the classic o-ring design. For sure, yeah.the 2000's was a hodge podge of ideas but I like to look back at it fondly even though a lot Hasbro's efforts at the time were duds. But just in general, I don't like the aesthetic. I think the figures were getting a little better by the time of Valor vs. I'll concede there were some cool figures that came out of those lines, and even some of the bad ones had neat ideas. Today, most of that stuff sits in a box in my closet, never to be looked at again. Eventually I got burnt out and realized that I just didn't like it very much. During the early 2000s, I tried to be a completist collector and dutifully bought up all the Joe vs. I love rebuying toys and reconnecting with my inner child! The Spy Troops and Valor vs Venom line was Hasbro's last big push to get younger kids interested in GI Joe, before it basically became all about retreading nostalgia or move tie-ins. Now that I am in my late 30's I am extremely nostalgic for GI Joe in general, but intrigued by this period of the toy line because I didn't connect with it as well as someone who might have been a little younger than me at the time would have. I was kinda like you in that I bought a couple vehicles and figure 2-packs when my friends and I would hit the mall, but most of it passed me by. Well, I grew up in the 90s and into the 2000's, so by that time the Spy Troops stuff was just coming out and I was basically finishing high school. Now that 1:18 GI Joe has gone dead officially from Hasbro, I have seriously considered going to ebay and buy all Spy Troops and VvV figures I like. GI Joes were all good too.įrom the vehicles, I remember being at the store and seeing the Humvee (jungle I think) and the Defense Mech. Guys like Cobra Slicer and other Cobra figures were not much to my liking, but in general I liked them all. Specifically about Valor vs Venom, I remember there were some figure designs I didn't like. Never got any of those, but my parents were good enough to get me the MCC re-release (probably the grail of those years). I remember being at the store and seeing the Brawler (Hammer re-release), Night Attack Chopper, the Grizzly Patriot tank, Smoke Screen transport. I love all of them, but I think I like more Spy Troops. I had these as my first action figures, then Gi Joe vs Cobra, Spy Troops and Valor vs Venom came. I'm younger than most of you, by the time I was ready to play with action figures Gi Joe was out of the market, there was only Lanard Corps.
